A True Honour

Due to the fact that this arena is so very popular, it only seems fitting that authorities plan to change its name to Johan Cruyff Stadium. This professional footballer and coach enjoyed a long and illustrious career during the 1970s. He was particularly known for winning the coveted Ballon d’Or no less than three times. He is also famous for having executed a feint during the 1974 finals. This move would subsequently be named after him and it is still used into the present day.Famous Amsterdam

Tragically, this football legend was also a lifelong smoker and as a result, he began to suffer heart trouble beginning in the 1990s. In 2016, the entire sports world learned that he was diagnosed with cancer. Mr. Cruyff died on 24 March 2016 at the age of 68. In order to appreciate all that this legend has contributed to the world of football over the years, authorities have decided to rename Amsterdam Arena in his honour. It is a fitting tribute to a personality who very literally redefined the game in his more than 40 years of participation.

More Than Football Alone

While there is no doubt that this venue is iconic within the football community, visitors to the city can also enjoy countless other attractions.
