King’s Day in Amsterdam
Plan on going to Amsterdam during King’s Day on the 27th of April? Maybe you have planned this trip to enjoy the parties in Amsterdam. You can go wild! Wear orange clothes, meet a lot of Dutch people and party all over town. It can be a fantastic experience for tourists in Amsterdam. You’ll emerge yourself in a totally different world that day. All the Dutchies are off from work and enjoying their time with friends and family.
King’s Day not in Amsterdam
But if you are a true fan of the King of The Netherlands, then the best place to go to is Amersfoort. What? Yes, Amersfoort. Amersfoort is a town about half an hour by train from Amsterdam. The King visits a different town in The Netherlands every year on his birthday. This year he’ll be in Amersfoort. So if you want to see him in real life, be sure to go there!
Catch a glimpse of the King
It’s a real honor for the township if the king visits a town. And also for the local Dutch people it is a true event. There’s a lot of planning upfront. Events are organised and the road is blocked for the king to go through. The route of the King will be near the city center. This way you don’t only get to see the King, but also the beautiful old center of Amersfoort.
The King arrives with his family at 11.00 and will do the tour until 13.00. Check the route in advance if you want to catch a glimpse of the King and his family. And be aware that it can get very crowded on the side of the roads. After 13.00 there will be a lot of concerts spread around town. Or you can decide to go back to Amsterdam of course to check out the parties there.
