Boat trips in Amsterdam boat trip Amsterdam

Who doesn’t love to be out on the water? Well they do love it in Amsterdam. Hop on a boat trip when you’re visiting Amsterdam. This is an experience you won’t regret. It’s actually a must do when visiting… The city is build on water and has 165 canals running through the city! Take a look at the city from a different perspective and enjoy the city at its best.

Boat trip on your to do list

Planning on visiting Amsterdam in the near future? If you’re working on your to do list, please also note to take a boat trip. This is a very nice way of discovering the canals and how the Dutch call it: grachten (try to pronounce it!). The history is rich and the houses build around the canals show so much about the rich history! Did you know that there are corners in the canals with houses which they call the golden corner? Take a guess on how beautiful the architecture and its elements must be.

Book in advance

When you want to book a boat trip we advice you to do this in advance. Or be prepared it can take some time before you get on the boat in high season. It can get busy! There are a lot of operators spread around the city. Almost all of them have a guide on board who can tell more about the history and architecture. They are happy to answer all your questions!

Hop on hop off

No, we’re not talking about the hop on hop off bus. We’re talking about hop on hop off boats! Yes, they really do have them in Amsterdam. This is a very nice way of discovering the city. Just get off the boat when you want to and visit museums, churches etc. They have a lot of stops around the city center. Then take the boat again from a hop on hop off point to continue your journey. You can buy passes that are available for 24 hours or 48 hours. That all depends on how much time you have and how much you want to see.

Want to be on the water without a tour? Take a pont at central station to the Northern part of Amsterdam. It’s for free and there’s a lot to discover on the other side. You have nice restaurants and bars and you can take a look at the old harbour buildings that still exist (it’s called NDSM).

When visiting Amsterdam, be sure to book a nice hostel for yourself. Hostel Amsterdam Orfeo offers you a comfortable place to stay at an affordable rate.
